The RFID Advantage
Most people are becoming more familiar with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) through the popularity of its use on toll roads and in subway passes.
RFID tags have grown to be a part of people’s everyday lives and are constantly changing as more retailers in more industries utilize them. RFID
tags are an improvement over barcodes due to their read / write capability. Data stored on RFID tags can be changed, updated, and locked. The one
thing that remains constant with customers however is that RFID technology is synonymous with speed and convenience. ICS has brought that technology
to the carwash industry in the Auto Passport RFID system.
The easiest way to define RFID technology in a carwash application is as a secure, vehicle identification system. Simply put, you know which specific
vehicle has pulled onto your lot. It’s secure because the tags are rendered inoperable if removed from the vehicle. Now that you know the vehicle, what
you do with it is up to you.

combination for me.”

Unlimited Clubs
Probably the most exciting trend in carwashing today is the ability to offer unlimited wash programs to your customers. Like a membership to your local gym,
an unlimited carwash club charges one monthly fee for unlimited washes. Operators typically set up two or three different levels based on their wash packages.
When a customer pulls up to the Auto Sentry, they are greeted with a short video explaining how the unlimited club works. If they are interested, they push the “Go to Clubs”
button that takes them to the club menu. There they can select any one of the clubs available, swipe their credit card, enter their zip code for security, and are charged a
prorated amount for the remainder of the current month.
Once through the wash, they present their receipt to the attendant who applies the RFID tag to the windshield.
Now, that vehicle, and only that vehicle, is tied to that wash club plan and credit card number. At the beginning of the following month, the customer’s card is charged
for that month’s “membership.” The customer’s card continues to be charged, every month, until they cancel their membership.
Unlimited clubs are great for customers because they feel like they are getting great value, saving time, and don’t have to worry about future weather conditions before
they wash.
They are great for wash operators because they help even out cash flow, reduce weather concerns, and generate more customer loyalty. If you have more than one location,
the customer and transaction data automatically transfers to multiple sites. Lastly, the customer still has the option to purchase extra services when they pull up to
the Auto Sentry. You can offer a-la-carte services online, hand finished, even express detail services to your unlimited wash club customers. And often these
customers are more likely to upgrade because they have “prepaid” for that visit.
Limited Clubs
Typically, customers don’t pay anything to join this type of club; they simply provide their contact information. When they pull up to the Auto Sentry,
they are greeted as a club member, and offered special deals each month and on major holidays. One month they may get a free wash upgrade, the next month free tire shine,
or a discount on express detail services. Whatever promotions you want to implement, you are rewarding your most frequent customers, and building loyalty.
Fleet Management
Generally, the biggest drawback for fleet managers is not knowing which vehicles are being
washed on the company account. The Auto Passport relieves all of those concerns. If the RFID tag is removed
from the vehicle, it is deactivated. So when the fleet manager reviews his monthly bill, he sees exactly
which vehicles were washed, and the date and time. And operators can set
specific pricing for each fleet account.
Reducing Damage Claims
Knowing specific vehicles also allows set up of specific washes with automatic retracts.
Say you sign up your local police department as a fleet account. You can attach a wash to
a specific RFID tag that automatically retracts the top brush for the vehicles with light
bars on top. Or you can retract the wraps on construction vehicles with extra large trailer
hitches. Imagine, The Auto Passport RFID system reducing damage claims at your wash.
